Cars collectors are known to be partial to some cars more than others. Classic cars such as VW Beetle were not only an icon of style during their time, they also sold in their millions. The original Beetle is still one of the top five best-selling cars of all times, which explains a lot about its enduring popularity.

Recently, manufacturers have taken a cue from the popularity of such cars, and launched them again in a new version. In this brief list, we find out more about all the cars back from the dead, and how they fared in the market for the second time.

1. Volkswagen Beetle

The original sold more than 21,000,000 cars, which makes it one of the top five best-selling cars of all time. Its latest avatar has sold more than 1,100,000 cars, which is not bad for a car that was not really an entry level model, unlike the original.

2. BMW 6-Series

The 6-Series consisted of a number of different models, of which the first was E24, launched in 1976. In 2003, BMW again launched the 6-Series with by introducing the E63, which was based on the Series-5 platform. Total production of the new model has been more than 125,000, compared to about 86,000 for the original.

3. Fiat 500

Ford was able to sell 3.8 million of these after launching it in 1959, making it one of the best selling Fiat cars ever. Its latest incarnation is much larger and relatively costlier than the original, and has sold about 1,000,000 million cars.

4. Mini Cooper

The new Mini has sold more than 2,000,000 cars, overselling the original, making it one of the biggest successes in this list.

5. Alfa Romeo 8C

This exclusive model sold only about 20-40 cars when it was first launched in 1931, but its latest model has seen more than 500 being produced and sold.

It is no surprise that people love new incarnations of cars they already love. Overall, we find that some models like the Mini and the AR 8C have outsold even their original models, whereas others have done almost as well.
