Cars are a convenience we enjoy and need. We can easily travel near and far without having to worry too much about being uncomfortable. Unfortunately, plenty of people have been using their car for such a long time that they end up wearing it out. As a result, their cars end up damaged and unable to function properly. The only solution to this problem is to always provide cars with the necessary
maintenance that they need on a regular basis. As a matter of fact, there are plenty of car service centers or local mechanics to be consulted regarding car maintenance. If you are one of those unsure on how to maintain a car, these tips will be come handy.
Tires
It is essential that your basic car maintenance includes your car’s tires. Always make it a point to check the tire pressure and then refer to your owner’s manual for the recommended level. All your tires must be rotated to avoid uneven wear. You must also have a spare tire in your trunk in case of emergencies. When you have them replaced, have the alignment checked.
Battery
It is fortunate that most of the car batteries these days are maintenance free that can last for over three years. However, you must be aware that the first indication that your battery may need replacing is when you begin having trouble starting the engine.
Engine Oil
Your car’s engine plays a very important role, so never turn a blind eye to its needs. Always make sure that they run properly and efficiently by having the oil checked and changed. You can check the oil level when you have parked on a level surface and switched the engine off. All you need to do is open the hood, remove the dipstick and then wipe it clean with a rag. When you return it to the oil reservoir, take it out again after a few minutes and check if the oil level is within the acceptable range on the dipstick. If you will need to add oil, do not over fill as it can damage the engine.
Transmission Fluid
Aside from the engine oil, you will also need to check the transmission fluid. You simply need to follow the steps used to check the engine oil, but this time look for a reservoir marked as ATF while the engine is running.
Power Steering Fluid
If your car has a power steering fluid reservoir, you can always check the level visually or use the same method done for the engine oil and transmission fluid. When you have low power steering fluid then that will indicate that there is a leak. Nevertheless, the fluid is often changed every three years.
Brakes And The Fluid
Do not forget to check the brake fluid levels as well to ensure that they are in the acceptable range. Since the brake pads and other brake components will only need changing based on how you drive and the driving conditions you drive in, you will need to watch out for the signs of a brake problem. If you hear any noise or feel vibration when you apply the brakes, then you better have a professional fix it for you.
