Buying a new car is never an easy process and it can even be a bit frustrating. Buying a used car can be even worse. How do you know you are getting a good deal? How do you know you aren’t getting a lemon that will break down within a month? Doing some advance used car research can help you in the long run. We have looked at the best used sedans, now let’s look at the best used hatchbacks for under 15k.

2010 Used Honda Fit

The Fit has risen through the ranks of the hatchbacks to become what is arguably the best hatchback on the market. It has good fuel economy, great safety ratings and strong reliability ratings. Additionally its creative storage option gives you a surprisingly high amount of storage space.  In fact, one of the best features is the class specific Magic Seat, that can flip in various directions to allow you to store larger items. Its back seats are spacious for its class and only those who are tall will have problems with the cabin.  Its high reliability score means you won’t be spending as much on long term maintenance.  One of the few knocks was that some reviewers thought it wasn’t fast enough while others thought it was fine.  It has a 1.5 liter 4 cylinder that averages a great 28/35 mpg.

2011 Used Ford Fiesta

Ford makes its entry on our list with the 2011 Fiesta, a car that easily surpasses most of the competition. Its good interior quality will give you a comfortable ride and its great safety ratings will ensure you get to where you are going safely. Its excellent fuel economy will save you money in the process. Its engine will produce a smooth ride that handles well.  There is little not to like about the Fiesta. It is available in either a hatchback or sedan, depending on your needs. New models offer a wide range of options one of which is an inflatable knee airbag.  It sports a 1.6 liter inline 4 cylinder engine that gets an impressive 29/40 mpg.

2010 Used Mazda MAZDA3

The MAZDA3 underwent a redesign in 2010 that produced one of the sportiest rides in its class. Unlike the other two on this list it is available with your choice of three different engines.  The base, fuel saving engine is the 2.0 liter four cylinder model that gets 25/33 mpg. However, for a little fun you can get the Mazdaspeed3 with a turbocharged four cylinder engine that averages 18/25 mpg. It has a quality and spacious interior with comfortable seats. Nice standard features includes a stereo with auxiliary jack, steering wheel mounted audio controls and power windows. Upgrades include navigation and stereo upgrades.

All in all these are three solid picks for hatchbacks. Check any local used dealerships for availability.
