So you are ready to go out and splash the cash on that gleaming new motor, yet do not really know what you should be looking out for?

Well, it is not something that we do every day and in today’s current economic climate it is hardly something that many of us can afford to do. So when it happens you may be after a little bit of advice on just how you should go about it.

Basically put, buying a new car comes in second to buying a house when you think about cost, so getting a good deal is paramount. That’s why I have put together a few tips for you when you are about to commit to that lovely new piece of machinery.

  • Firstly, if you are looking for the best time of year to purchase a new car, newer models are generally at the end of each summer. So if you want to be sure on getting something new, look to buy around August, September or November.
  • Secondly, be prepared for all of the sales patter. Car salesmen are famous for it, learn to see through it and do not be pushed into buying something that doesn’t suit your taste or budget.
  • Thirdly, always ask about any deals that are available. It is almost expected that the price on the car can always be negotiated down, do your best to get that price closer to what you are looking for.
  • Fourthly, avoid going to a dealership on the weekend. This is the busiest time for them; opt for a midweek visit where they are quiet and are going to be more willing to give you a deal that suits you.
  • Fifthly, if your knowledge on cars is not that particularly good, try to bring a friend or member of the family that has a good basic knowledge. They can help to cut through all of the mumbo jumbo that you simply have no idea about.
  • Sixthly, be patient. Never be in a rush to buy the first car you see. This is a major purchase in your life so let it happen naturally, ensure you get the best deal and best car for you.

Additionally, you should be looking to see what other benefits you can have thrown in to any deal, such as free services, warranty or even something like some alloy wheels. You will be surprised at just what some dealers will do for you to clinch the deal.

Finally, enjoy the experience. As we mentioned before, this doesn’t happen often, so savour the experience and make sure you learn from it. Whether you want one of the new ford cars, a mini or a jeep, there will be a car out there that is perfect for you.
