Ford has leapfrogged Volkswagen, with its commercial vans being crowned the most reliable in the UK.
Ford was names as the most reliable van manufacturer in the esteemed Fleet News 50 survey (FN50).

Companies that regularly employ business contract hire as part of their fleet are often asked to take part, to name their most reliable fleet vehicles and vans.

The Ford Transit came top of the van reliability survey while the Ford Transit Connect retained its second-place position from 2011. Volkswagen was named most reliable manufacturer last year but has slipped into third behind Mercedes-Benz.

Mark Ovenden, managing director at Ford of Britain was delighted with the announcement, and took time to thank fleet owners that have invested in the Transit and continue to use it for their business.

Stephen Briers, editor of Fleet News, praised the Transit’s overall reliability, underlining what an important factor it was in making a decision regarding van fleets. He also praised Ford’s long-term commitment to the Transit.


A number of new vans entered the top 10, including the Vauxhall Vivaro and Movano, the Renault Trafic and the Citroen Berlingo. Last year’s most reliable van, the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, dropped to third place.

BMW also had cause for celebration, with its 3 Series being named the most reliable car. BMW was named the most reliable manufacturer.

When it comes to smaller vans though, it’s hard to see beyond the Fiat Doblo. In fact, the Fiat Doblo Cargo has also recently won a number of awards, picking up three accolades at the What Van? Awards.

The Doblo Cargo was launched in March 2010, and swept the Light Van of the Year category for 2013 – the third year in a row the Doblo Cargo scooped the title. The Doblo has proved to be incredibly popular with commercial lease customers, thanks to its huge range and numerous economical engines.

Available versions of the Fiat Doblo include the Cargo, Cargo Maxi, Cargo SX, Cargo Maxi SX, Combi, Combi Maxi, Platform Cab, Work Up, and XL.

The award-winning Doblo Cargo is available with a number of impressive low-emission Euro 5-specification engines. That includes a 1.4-litre 16v 95bhp petrol unit and four MultiJet 16v diesels.

The Fiat Doblo Cargo makes a great partner to commercial enterprises that need to transport a number of items on a regular basis, whether small, heavy or large. The car can cope with a 1-ton payload and up to 5.0 m3 of volume.
