Running on Empty: How Far Can Your Car Go?
Once that gas light comes on, most of us will take the next available opportunity to pull into a gas station and fill up the car. That ominous little light seems like a ticking time bomb, but have you ever wondered just how long you have until you run out of gas completely? The real truth of the matter is, it may be longer than you think. Although most of us view the gas light as a symbol for “tank empty,” the reality is that you probably have about another 30-50 miles before you will run out of gas completely. Even a big truck, like the Chevrolet Silverado, will give you just over 33 miles when you are running on “empty.” How does your car match up? Take a look at this infographic and you might be surprised just how long a car can run after the gas light switches on.
