Stolen House and Car Keys
We need keys to keep our property safe and secure. Our homes are locked and double locked, our cars equally so, and any other buildings we might have are also suitably secured. It is a sad fact of life that there are some people who are not as honest as the rest of us; thieves prosper in places where there are interesting and valuable items on offer. But what happens if someone steals your house or car keys? It is natural for us to keep our keys in a purse, bag, wallet or pocket, and often there are details of our address alongside. If someone steals your bag with your keys in it, the chances are they will know where you live.
So, what should you do if someone steals your house or car keys? The first thing you should do, as with any such crime, is to report it to the police. They will undoubtedly advise you to have the appropriate locks changed. This is relatively easy to do for the house, especially if you have only a front and back entrance as most do. A locksmith will attend your property on request and within a short time, and will endeavour to change your locks as efficiently and affordably as possible. They may also offer you valuable advice on how to improve the security of your home, and may be able to help you with window locks and other security improvements.
If you have not already done so it may be the time to install a security camera or upgrade your alarm system. Having your keys – or any item – stolen is a sharp reminder that there are people who are willing to do all they can to steal your property for their own benefit. Security cameras are not expensive, and you can get advice from the police and from other sources.
For stolen car keys the answer is not quite so simple; modern cars are fitted with integrated lock systems that can be complex and expensive to change. Whereas even the most advanced home door lock can be changed by removing the barrel and replacing it, the car will not be so easy. Your best option is to contact the manufacturer with details of your car and they will be able to offer you the very best advice. If this option proves more expensive than it may be worth, you are advised to remove any valuable items from the car and to make sure your security systems in the home are up to date. Also, remember to activate the alarm system.
Having your home or car keys stolen is more than a mere inconvenience; it can be a stressful experience and one that has a detrimental effect on your health. It is essential that you always have a second set of keys for everything that needs to be locked in your home, just in case such a theft happens. You can always rely on a locksmith to give you the best help and advice at the right price.
