It seems everybody loves SUV’s and what’s not to like about them. They can go off-road, haul plenty of people and goods and are stylish to boot. That being said you may not be able to afford that top end SUV you always dreamed of and need something more affordable. We are here to help you out. We have compiled our list of the most affordable used SUV’s of 2009.
2009 Used Toyota Highlander Hybrid
The first hybrid to make our list, the Highlander offers up a stylish design with a spacious interior. As far as hybrids go this powertrain on it offers a smooth and refined ride often comparable to a gasoline engine. Some critics thought the higher price for the hybrid isn’t worth it but you are saving the environment after all. It comes standard with all-wheel drive and has customizable five and seven seat configurations. The biggest knock was some low quality interior materials and the higher price for the hybrid. It gets a non-electric 27/25 mpg.
2009 Used Ford Edge
The Ford Edge is stylish, attractive and well designed. The interior is comfortable and spacious and it has overall good handling. Perhaps best of all is its great safety rating followed by a class average reliability rating. Its five seats also have plenty of space, even in the back row. Overall this is a solid vehicle. That being said, some felt the interior materials were cheap and the breaking was uninspiring. The standard trim package is a 3.5 liter V6 with two- or all- wheel drive. The two wheel gets 17/24 mpg while the all-wheel gets 15/22 mpg.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee ranks fairly further down the list but for those that need something with more power and pool and more affordability we put it on the list. It boasts the solid off-road capabilities you would expect from Jeep but average safety and reliability ratings. If you need a strong SUV that tough out the elements, go off-road and pull your boat then this is a good option for you. It does have subpar fuel economy and the back seat feels a bit tight. It comes in several trims with the option for a V6 or V8, however if you are wanting this for off-roading then go with the V8. It has 5.7 liters and gets 14/19 mpg.
